Revisiting local
Last saturday I revisited one of my favourite local places. My goal was to photograph the location during dusk and early night. I shot a portrait and landscape composition. Both with and without the lantern illuminated. My favourite edited image is the featured one. Both vertical compositions are unusable due to people passing by.
For my taste the background of the image with the lantern Illuminated is still too bright and misses some depth due to the effect of flat lighting. My favourite image has more interest (detail, clouds) in the sky and has more depth due to the last reflective light.
I have to revisit the location and shoot at the moment when the background has more interest (dark clouds), darker and the lantern is illuminated.
I shot all images with my Intrepid 4x5 camera using the Nikkor-W 150mm lens and Fomapan 100 sheet film. I developed the film with Fomadon R09 for 9 minutes. All negatives I scanned with my Epson V850 Pro. All images are edited with Affinity Photo and Capture One.
In this post you can see also the edited version with and without the use of Silver effects. I used Silver Effects to give the images a “vintage look”. It suits the location.
The use of a large format camera and film has its challenges. Especially the need of a small f-stop in combination with a film like Fomapan 100 leads to very long shutter speeds.
